Online: QSRMagazine Witness: Man lunged at troopers with knife before shooting By BLAKE STOWERS Bluefield Daily Telegraph Feb 22, 2017 PRINCETON — A witness to an officer-involved shooting in Princeton Wednesday afternoon described a knife-wielding man who lunged at West Virginia State Police troopers and refused to drop his weapon. The shooting occurred at the Hardee’s Parking lot on Meadow Field Lane. Jessie Dotson, a cook at the restaurant, said the man was shot after a confrontation with two State Police troopers. “I just saw two officers in a stand-down with a guy wielding a knife, and he kept lunging toward the officers,” Dotson said. “They kept telling him to drop the knife. He wasn’t having it. He lunged at the officer for the last time. He didn’t stop. The officer had no choice but to shoot him. He really didn’t. Both state troopers had their guns drawn on him trying to get him to surrender and give up.” Dotson said both officers were in full uniform, and both had their guns on the suspect. Another witness said he saw a man around 20-25 years old walking back and forth in the parking lot with a large kitchen knife. Troopers with the West Virginia State Police and deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department remain on the scene.
