'Let Us Show You How To Bring Permaculture Into Your Life, Get Our Free E-Course http://bit.ly/2CdIu6O Living Larders are an example of a simple solution that can be harnessed or designed, two different approaches that I will discuss in the remainder of the article as I attempt to get a few principles across in this concept of living larders, but first a definition. Living larders are pre-existing or designed cycles and niches in nature that are biologically living flora or fauna food sources that humans can harvest when needed without having to store them in a traditional root cellar or larder. The design of Living Larders has 3 principles 1) Pre-existing larders: Assess the biological resources of a given area before imposing new flora and fauna on a system. Assess if there are activities you can do to enhance their productivity. 2) Cultivated Flora Larders: Cultivated Flora living larders should consist of perennial and self-seeding annuals that require minimal tending to grow in both aquatic and terrestrial ecozones at all flora levels. 3) Cultivated Fauna Larders: Cultivated Fauna living larders should consist of enhancing habitat for existing habitat (wild) or designing systems for self-managing domesticated fauna in both Terrestrial and Aquatic environments at all trophic levels.
