'Omurice (Omu-raisu or Omelette Rice, オムライス) is an example of yōshoku (Western cuisine of Japanese original cuisine) consisting of an omelette made with Fried rice with chicken, seasoned with ketchup (tomato sauce) and wrapped in an omelet. With omu and raisu being contractions of the words omelette and rice, the name is an example of Gairaigo. It\'s a dish that is often made at home and can often be found in Western restaurants in Japan and is popular with both children and adults alike. The dish was brought to Korea during Japanese rule, and today it is a fixture on gimbap restaurant menus throughout South Korea, where it is rendered as \"오므라이스 (omeuraiseu)\" in Hangul. Omurice is also popular in Taiwan.
