'Street Food - Eating LIVE Sea Urchin Uni Sashimi!'

03:30 Feb 24, 2021
'Eating live sea urchin sashimi off the street! At this street stall, sea urchins are still alive when it is cracked open and prepared for the customer. The uni has a wonderful, creamy texture, and has a fresh sweetness that rival the uni you would find at any sushi restaurant. There is a disclaimer here, however. Sea urchins feast on kelp, and if you’ve ended up with one who happened to snack on a bitter batch, it could have a slightly bitter, undesirable flavor. There is no way to physically determine which sea urchins are going to be bitter. Since the sea urchin is not tasted before given to the customer, there is actually a chance that he or she gets one that will taste bitter! The sea urchins are served by Poppa\'s Fresh Fish Company, which is a local San Diego Company dedicated to bringing the freshest seafood to the local farmer\'s markets. This video was taken at the Farmer\'s Market at Little Italy, on a Saturday afternoon.
