'This video is about Post-Tonsillectomy Diet What can I eat after I get my tonsils out? Summary: Start with cold things that melt like popsicles and ice cream. Avoid citrus like lemon or orange sorbet. Then room temperature soft foods like mashed potatoes, apple sauce, grits. Then lukewarm semi-solid foods like mac & cheese. Eventually back to warm, solid foods like hamburger. Usually it will take 1-2 weeks to get to this point. In general, avoid salty, peppery, spicy, acidic things. Avoid carbonation. Avoid alcohol. Avoid hard, crunchy, scratchy foods until you are completely healed. Some doctors will recommend avoiding things that are red in color (for concern of confusing red spit/phlegm/vomit with blood). Others also recommend avoiding dairy (potentially thicker phlegm and mucus). Medical Disclaimer: All comments are generalizations and intended to be for educational purposes only.
